The height of the pour, the steady hand, the frothy top, every movement has meaning. During our time in Marrakech, we captured this ritual on video at two cafés that quickly rose to the very top of our list: Zeitoun Cafe and Koutoubia Cafe. We didn’t just stop once, we returned again and again.

Zeitoun Café : Views, Tea, and the Pulse of the Medina
Perched on a corner of the medina with sweeping views, Zeitoun Café is perfectly positioned for lingering over mint tea while the city unfolds around you. Sitting outside with a glass of freshly poured tea, you can watch Marrakech move at its own pace, scooters weaving through narrow streets, vendors calling out, and locals going about their day. The staff here perform the tea ritual with quiet confidence, pouring from height to aerate the tea and bring out its sweetness.
Zeitoun’s location makes it an ideal pause point while exploring nearby sights such as the historic Saadian Tombs and the bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square, both located just steps away and offering a fascinating contrast between lively daily life and Morocco’s rich royal history. After navigating the energy and intensity of the medina, Zeitoun offers a welcome moment to sit, observe, and absorb it all from above.
Taking of watching the world go by we were treated to wonderful vocals, whilst enjoying our tea, from the local barber shop. It is called Khalid Coif and all the customers were smiling and clapping as the barber belted out a moroccan number and used his hands to drum on the chairs. This was one very happy place.
Koutoubia Café: Calm Moments Beside an Icon
Just steps from one of Marrakech’s most recognizable landmarks, Koutoubia Café offers a different but equally memorable experience. Sitting outside here, mint tea in hand, you’re treated to uninterrupted views of the Koutoubia Mosque, its minaret rising above palm trees and city streets. The atmosphere feels slightly calmer, more open, a perfect contrast to the medina’s intensity. Despite the fact that the largest medina and souk are around the corner!
This is prime people-watching territory. Locals pass through the gardens, visitors pause for photos, and the rhythm of daily life flows steadily around you. Watching mint tea being poured here feels almost ceremonial, framed by one of Morocco’s most important historic sites. It’s an ideal stop after exploring the mosque gardens or before wandering back toward the old city.
