VERDICT: We gave 5 out of 5 tickets and here’s why!
Determined to get inside the walled off Centre-Ville to see the Carnaval
Looking back now, the Carnaval de Nice was one of those moments that completely surprised us. We had come to Nice for a quiet winter stay along the Promenade des Anglais… but the city had other plans. Just a short walk from our hotel, one of Europe’s biggest carnavals was about to begin. At first we thought we’d just watch from a distance, as tickets were sold out and the crowds were already massive. But as the music started, the energy in the streets was impossible to ignore… and before long we found ourselves lining up with thousands of people, hoping to find a way inside. 🎭

Have you ever visited a carnaval like this?
“We didn’t plan to see the Nice Carnival at all. Tickets were sold out… the crowds were massive… and yet somehow we ended up front row at one of Europe’s most famous parades.”
The Carnaval de Nice is one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular winter festivals.
During our stay on the French Riviera, we unexpectedly found ourselves inside the famous Nice Carnival parade surrounded by giant floats, music, confetti, and thousands of costumed spectators.
Held every February, the Nice Carnival (Carnaval de Nice) transforms the city into a massive outdoor celebration.
The illuminated night parades feature enormous artistic floats, marching bands, dancers, DJs, and performers moving through the streets around Place Masséna.
One of the most famous carnivals in Europe!
Originally dating back to 1294, the modern Nice Carnival has become one of the most famous carnivals in Europe, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
When we first arrived, tickets were sold out. But after navigating the crowds and speaking with security, we discovered there were still tickets available nearby and within minutes we were inside the secured parade zone watching the spectacle unfold from the front row.
The floats were incredible: giant characters and animals with moving parts, music blasting, confetti everywhere, and spectators dressed in colourful costumes.

It was an unforgettable night and one of the most surprising highlights of our trip to Nice.
🎭 If you ever visit Nice in February, the Carnaval de Nice is something you absolutely should not miss.
