This article is part of our 14 Days in Marrakech: Ultimate Guide. We visited the famous Jemaa el Fnaa market, ancient Ait Ben Haddou, travelled the Atlas Mountains and saw the incredible Ouzoud Waterfalls. Our trip also included a stay at the Riad Catalina and a one in a lifetime Hot Air Balloon flight over the desert.

Arabian Nights

Chez Ali offers visitors a classic Moroccan evening experience combining traditional dining and live Fantasia entertainment. Guests enjoy a full Moroccan meal served in large Berber tents, followed by an outdoor arena show featuring precision horse riding, drumming, singing, dancing, and dramatic rifle displays performed under the stars. While the evening unfolds at a relaxed pace, the scale and spectacle make it a memorable introduction to Morocco’s cultural traditions; lively, theatrical, and distinctly Marrakech.

An evening at Chez Ali is full of entertainment, a wonderful tradiional dinner and lots to see. Yes, there is waiting. Plenty of it. But in hindsight, that slow build feels deliberate and the final acts in the arena made up for the earlier long pauses.

Arabian extravaganza at the incredible Chez Ali

We arrived as dusk settled over the Palmeraie, lanterns glowing softly against the darkening sky and entertainers both on horseback and lining the entry way was impressive. Guests were guided to vast Berber tents, each one buzzing with anticipation. Long communal tables filled the space, and soon enough the first courses began to arrive; traditional Moroccan fare served generously and without rush. Tagines, couscous, roasted meats, warm bread, sweet pastries; this wasn’t fine dining, but it was authentic, hearty, and social, the kind of meal designed to be shared and savoured over time.

As dinner unfolded, musicians moved between the tents, filling the air with rhythmic drumming and chants. Dancers appeared unexpectedly, their costumes catching the light, drawing applause and camera flashes. It felt less like a staged performance and more like being absorbed into a centuries-old celebration, lively, loud, and unapologetically theatrical.

Two horse riders wearing traditional attire and head coverings, galloping through smoke and sparks at a nighttime equestrian event.

Then the moment came when attention shifted outward. We were guided from the tents into the open arena, where the real spectacle began. However, this is where there was a considerabe wait and you had to simply enjoy the wine, the environment and be patient! Under a vast, star-filled sky, Fantasia riders eventually thundered across the sand on beautifully adorned horses. Dressed in traditional military-style regalia, the riders moved in perfect formation; charging, stopping, turning with astonishing precision. The sound of hooves pounding in unison, followed by the explosive crack of rifles fired skyward, was visceral. You could really feel it.

Between the equestrian displays came singing, drumming, and dancing, each segment building on the last. Fire-lit moments, dramatic lighting, and carefully choreographed chaos transformed the arena into a living storybook of Moroccan history and folklore. It was bold, noisy, proud and completely absorbing.

Yes, the evening is long. Yes, patience is required. But once the show is in full motion, none of that matters. Chez Ali delivers not a quick attraction, but a full immersion with food, culture, tradition, and spectacle rolled into one unforgettable night.

Tell it like it is: this isn’t subtle, and it’s not meant to be. It’s Morocco turned up to eleven – and under the stars, it works brilliantly.
