From WWII RCAF Training Base to Bustling Regional Hub
Chilliwack Airport, established in 1942, is a public airport located just east of downtown Chilliwack.
It was originally a training base for the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. The airport transitioned to civilian use after the war and has grown into a busy regional hub, now operated by Magnum Management Inc.
The airfield has a single asphalt runway, lit with LED lighting and served by a parallel taxiway. The small terminal handles aircraft with up to 19 seats and includes a restaurant and 24-hour fueling for 100LL Avgas and Jet A.
Roughly 75 private and commercial aircraft are based there, with about 20 on-field businesses offering flight training, charter services, and maintenance like structural repairs, and around 60,000 aircraft movements per year.
Must Do! Check out the wonderful Airport Restaurant!
For locals, the Chilliwack Airport is best known for two things: pie and planes. The Airport Restaurant in the terminal is famous for its homemade pies, their slogan “I Fly for Pie” has been around many years, the pies first made famous by Barbara Mitchell, one of the original owners. We have taken scenic flights from the airport, watched the airshows and enjoyed pie.
Every August the field hosts Chilliwack Flight Fest, a free airshow that draws thousands to watch aerial displays, you can even see vintage aircraft. Highly attended.
The facility supports recreational flying, pilot training, and commercial operations, making it an important part of Chilliwack’s economy and community life.
The airport is used by both private pilots and commercial air operators and has services and modification facilities for different types of aircraft.
