Visit one of Abbotsford’s hidden gems; Tuscan Farm Gardens on Mt. Lehman Road
At first glance it looks like an ordinary farm, but once you step inside the wrought iron gates you’ll discover ten acres of beautifully landscaped gardens inspired by the Italian countryside.
After paying the small admission fee of $9 each, it was time to explore… complete with map & umbrellas in hand. We quickly made a friend of a little black cat, who decided to follow us while we wandered down the pathways & across the pond by the little footbridge.
Walking paths wind through colourful flower beds featuring towering delphiniums, spectacular dahlias, fragrant lavender, vibrant poppies and elegant echinacea. We loved strolling beneath the beautiful Wisteria Arbour, relaxing beside the Labyrinth Fountain and admiring the Rose Gazebo surrounded by blooms.
Lavender is the heart of the gardens, with varieties including Hidcote, Munstead, Maillette and Gros Bleu creating wonderful colour and fragrance throughout the property. The comprehensive map you’re given when you arrive, not only helps you see where to go, but also what varieties of flowers you’ll see.
Beyond the gardens you’ll also discover a family orchard filled with apples, pears, plums and nut trees, while magnificent cedar trees, more than 75 years old stand watch over the farm.
Speaking of trees, there were even a few trees with fresh green leaves surrounded by soft fluffy plumes that we discovered were called Smoke Trees.
There are plenty of spots to stop, sit a spell, visit, you could even sit & paint here at one of the garden furniture sets throughout the property.
We even spotted bee hives where their famous lavender honey comes from. It’s so popular, in fact, that we’ll have to wait until August, when they’ve bottled their next batch, to get some.
Tuscan Farm Gardens is also a popular destination for small weddings, photography sessions and private events thanks to its stunning scenery.
A Hidden Garden Paradise
There was plenty of parking, we even saw bus + overflow parking areas & public washrooms. The property is mostly gravel parking lots & pathways, but is fairly even ground throughout.
As it was raining when we went, we decided to cut this trip a little short (we plan on going back soon!) & go into the Apothecary for a treat. There was so much to see, like lavender room spray, olive oil soaps, even lip balm. There were floor to ceiling bouquets of the fresh, aromatic lavender, also loose leaf lavender tea, lavender buds & sachets, hand & body wash, and more.
There were many treats such as lavender honeycomb ice cream, scones, strawberry cheesecake & even sausage rolls, but we settled on lavender Snickerdoodle cookies, with a Lavender Lemonade for Mr. MRT & a Lavender Earl Grey tea for me. We noted a Lavender Cold-foam Chai, a Lavender Cold-foam Matcha & ham + cheddar scones for next time.
If you’re looking for a peaceful escape, a place to take beautiful photographs or simply one of the Fraser Valley’s best hidden attractions, Tuscan Farm Gardens is absolutely worth the visit. 📍 Tuscan Farm Gardens – Mt. Lehman Road, Abbotsford, BC
