Historic Fort Langley, Beautiful Countryside, Wineries and the Charm of the Fraser Valley

Why Visit Langley?

Langley offers visitors a surprisingly varied experience. We set out to visit every one of the attractions on this page and had a wonderful time doing so. Look for our detailed day out to Langley.

Situated between Surrey and Abbotsford, it combines growing urban communities with beautiful countryside, historic villages, local wineries, great shopping and some of the Fraser Valley’s most interesting heritage attractions.

We’ve explored this area during our many travels around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, and one of the things we enjoy most is the contrast between Langley’s different communities. Better still, it’s less than a 30 minute drive from Abbotsford.

Every time we visit Langley we are surprised, in a good way. Once out of the core city area, there is so much farmland, vineyards and horse farms. You really feel you are in a very rural area, despite being nearer to Vancouver.

Downtown Langley City provides shops, cafƩs, restaurants and urban parks, a casino and the Willowbrook Mall, while only a short drive away the scenery changes to rural farmland, and quiet country roads.

And what about Sports?

We have had the chance to see the Giants play on a number of occasions. The Vancouver Giants are a Canadian major junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Home Arena: Langley Events Centre (since moving from Vancouver’s Pacific Coliseum in 2016). Michael BublĆ© is a co-owner of the Vancouver Giants junior ice hockey team. He shares ownership alongside majority owner Ron Toigo, his father Lewis BublĆ©, Sultan Thiara, Bruce Allen, and fellow celebrity co-owner Drew Scott. There is some discussion about the Giants moving to Surrey!

And then there’s Fort Langley. Check out our special feature story.

This historic village, sitting beside the Fraser River, is arguably one of the most attractive heritage destinations in British Columbia. Its connection to the Hudson’s Bay Company and the early colonial history of the province makes it particularly worthwhile for anyone who enjoys discovering the stories behind the places they visit.

Langley is also an easy destination for couples who enjoy a relaxed day out rather than a tightly scheduled itinerary.
