Poor rooms, uncomfortable conditions and an inedible final dinner near Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

Following our 72 hours exploring Normandy beaches, Caen and Bayeux we had one last night to spend in Paris before heading to our first ride ever aboard Eurostar. We stayed one night in the Mercure Charles de Gaulle, as we would be taking the train back to St. Pancras Station, London the next morning. From there a quick jump to Heathrow and then to Vancouver, Canada.

Not the greatest experience! The Mercure was not a good stay. We had to switch rooms, it wasn’t clean, the second room wasn’t much better. We were roasting hot in the night, not being able to change the temperature, so had a terrible sleep. The toilet in the bathroom was running the entire time, despite a call to have it looked at. Not what you would expect from a recommended hotel.

The meal in the restaurant – ‘Before Paris’ – was terrible. We waited over an hour for our food, yet we were the only diners there. My fish was so over-the-top salty that I couldn’t eat it, the pasta was like glue & the aubergine on top was grey & mushy. Mr. MRT’s chicken was fine but his vegetables and other sides were awful, inedible.

Once we were finally served our meal, we didn’t see the server again, like they knew we wouldn’t be happy with what they’d brought out.

Not the best ending to an otherwise interesting and enjoyable trip in France. Would not recommend a stay or meal at the Mercure Charles de Gaulle!

Alternative 5 Hotels To Choose From Near Charles de Gaulle Airport

1. Sheraton Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Hotel

The Sheraton is located directly inside Terminal 2, above the TGV and RER railway station. It is one of the most convenient choices for an early flight or train, although that convenience frequently comes with a higher room rate.

2. Pullman Paris Roissy CDG Airport

Located in the Roissypôle hotel area, the Pullman is close to Terminal 3 and the Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 railway station. Guests can reach the other airport terminals using the free CDGVAL automated train.

3. citizenM Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

The citizenM is connected to Terminal 3 by a covered walkway of approximately five minutes. It offers compact, technology-focused rooms, extra-large beds and a 24-hour food and beverage area.

4. Hilton Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

The Hilton is located in the Roissypôle area near Terminal 3 and the CDGVAL station. Its location provides convenient access to the airport terminals, RER B trains and the wider Paris transportation network.

5. INNSiDE by Meliá Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

This contemporary airport hotel is located near the airport’s PR parking area. Guests can use the free CDGVAL service to connect with the terminals and airport railway stations.

Top 3 Ways to Reach Gare du Nord From the Mercure

The Mercure Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle is at 3 Allée du Verger in Roissy-en-France. Despite its name, it is not inside an airport terminal. It is approximately two kilometres from the airport RER station.

Costs below are approximate as of August 2026 and can change.

1. Hotel Shuttle and RER B — Best Overall Option

Reserve the Mercure’s paid shuttle to Charles de Gaulle Airport. From Terminal 2, board the RER B train toward central Paris and exit directly at Gare du Nord.

Estimated time: 55–75 minutes in total
RER B fare: €14 per adult
Hotel shuttle: Reported at approximately €7 per person, but confirm when booking
Estimated total: Approximately €21 per person
Advantages: Direct rail service into Gare du Nord
Disadvantages: Shuttle schedules can add waiting time

RER B is the simplest public transportation connection between CDG Airport and Gare du Nord. Paris Aéroport

2. Taxi or Prebooked Car — Best With Luggage

A taxi or private car can collect you at the hotel and deliver you directly to Gare du Nord. This avoids transferring luggage between a hotel shuttle and the RER.

Estimated cost: Approximately €45–€65 per vehicle
Advantages: Door-to-door service
Disadvantages: Traffic can make the journey unpredictable

The official €56 CDG-to-Right-Bank taxi fare technically applies to trips beginning at the airport. Because the Mercure is in Roissy-en-France rather than at a terminal, confirm whether the driver will use a meter or an agreed fare.

3. Public Bus 350 — Cheapest Option

Bus 350 connects the Charles de Gaulle/Roissy area with Gare de l’Est. From Gare de l’Est, Gare du Nord is approximately a 10-minute walk or one stop on Métro Line 4.

Estimated time: 65–90 minutes
Estimated cost: From approximately €2.05 by bus, plus €2.55 if using the Métro
Advantages: Considerably cheaper than the RER or taxi
Disadvantages: Slower and less convenient with luggage
Important: Confirm the closest operating stop and schedule before departure
